APOD 2.5

This picture, "The Magnificent Tail of Comet McNaught" caught my eye immediately for several reasons. It just so happens that I recently created a power point for the edification of my peers, about comets specifically (with some information on meteors also). I actually learned a great deal about Comet McNaught while making the project, and all of the information in the article, and this picture even, is in my powerpoint. It is very weird to see that all of the information in this APOD, I actually knew already. However I did learn one thing while browsing the embedded links and the article. This factoid is that the name of the spacecraft that accidentally pass through McNaught's tail (I already knew this had happened) was named Ulysses. Other than that though, I feel proud to say that I already was aware of all the information on this blog.

APOD 2.4

This picture, "Bright Sun and Crescent Earth from the Space Station" caught my eye for several reasons for this week's APOD Blog. It showcases a very unique moment, and coincidental composition of events in space. The picture depicts a breathtaking point, when a crescent Earth, long solar-paneled arm of the International Space Station, and the bright Sun are all visible in one camera frame. The picture was taken when the Shuttle, 'Atlantis', visited the Space Station last week. In perusing the embedded links in this article, I learned that the International Space Station was being resupplied and expanded by the Atlantis Shuttle mission. I also learned that mission shuttle's usually leave or take mission specialists to or from the shuttle, where they have been performing necessary tasks aboard the Station.
